One of the major thriving temple of Brahma, in pushkar can be identified by its red Spire and By the image of Hans (The swan considered sacred to Lord Brahma). The "Chaturmukhi" (Four Faces) Brahma idol is housed in "Grabha Grih" (WOMB house) which is the sanctum sanctorum. The sanctuary has silver doors inside a carved marble gateway. Steps in the corner lead to a small cave dedicated to Lord Shiva. A beautifully carved silver turtle is set on the floor in the front of the "Garbha Grih". This temple Built with Marbles is Decorated with Silver Coins. The temple walls are also adorned with graceful peacocks, the celestial vehicle of Goddess "Saraswati" (The Goddess of wisdom and Consort of Lord Brahma.).
History
This is the only temple in world dedicated to Lord Brahma, the creator of the universe, the structure around the temple was built in the 14th century and stands on a high platform near Pushkar lake. Brahma is one of the Holy Trinity in Hinduism, sharing the honour with Vishnu the Preserver and Shiva the Destroyer. Although a very large number of temples can be found all over India dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu, there are very few temples for Brahma, this being one of the holiest one. Brahma here is shown in a life-size form with four hands and four faces, facing four different directons. A hans (goose, the official carrier of Brahma) spans the gateway to the temple which is crowned with a red spire. A small statue of the milk goddess Gayatri (whom Brahma married) near Brahma's idol is called Chaumurti. Steps within the silver-doored sanctuary lead down into a small cave which is a Hindu temple of Lord Shiva.
How to reach
Air: The nearest airport to Pushkar is the Jaipur airport that is located at a distance of 138 kms and operates several flights to and from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Udaipur.
Road: A good network of roads ensures that Pushkar is easily reachable by road. There are two major bus stands in Pushkar- the Marwar bus stand and the Ajmer bus stand that see a heavy flow of buses coming and going in form various cities of Rajasthan and India.
Rail: Ajmer, located at a distance of 11 km away from Pushkar, is the nearest railway station. It has regular train services to Delhi, Agra, Jaipur, Udaipur and Ahmedabad.
